Why GPU Sag Happens

Modern GPUs with triple fans, beefy heatsinks, and reinforced PCBs can weigh over 2 pounds. When that weight is only supported at the PCIe slot, the right side of the card begins to dip — and with enough time, it can bend or break critical solder points.

The Physics Behind GPU Sag

When a heavy GPU is mounted only at the PCIe slot, gravity exerts a downward force near the end of the card. This creates a torque (rotational force) around the PCIe connector — similar to a diving board being weighted at the end.

A sag bracket adds a counteracting normal force from underneath the GPU, neutralizing the torque and supporting the card across its length. This minimizes mechanical stress on the PCB and the motherboard slot, preventing flex and potential microfractures.

Creative Fixes: The Chopstick Bracket
